Hi, I’m Emma. I’m a qualified teacher with a First Class Honours degree in Primary Education, and I’ve been teaching and tutoring children for over six years.
 
I’ve always known that I wanted to work with children. What drew me to teaching wasn’t just the subjects themselves, but the opportunity to help children discover that they are capable of more than they think.

Throughout my teacher training and time in the classroom, I quickly realised how different every child is. Some children need to see something explained visually, some need to talk it through, and others simply need someone to slow things down and give them the confidence to have another go. I’ve worked with children who have told me they’re “bad at maths” or “not good at reading”, only to watch their confidence grow once we found an approach that worked for them. Those moments are what made me fall in love with tutoring.
 
Alongside teaching, I began tutoring and soon realised just how much I loved the one-to-one relationship it allowed me to build with each child. Without the pressures of a busy classroom, I can really get to know my students. I always like to find out what they enjoy, how they learn, where they’re struggling and what makes them feel confident.
 
My approach is personalised, encouraging and purposeful. I want children to understand why something works, rather than simply memorising an answer. I adapt my teaching to each child and make sure they have plenty of opportunities to practise, apply what they’ve learnt and recognise their own progress.
 
For me, tutoring is about much more than improving a maths score or getting better at reading. It’s about helping children become confident, capable and independent learners. There’s nothing better than that moment when a child looks at you and says, “Ohhh, I get it now!” or when they start attempting something independently that they once thought they couldn’t do.
 
That’s why, after more than six years, I still absolutely love what I do.
